coling strange lands on lies.. going to hit hard, this one..tip! collin strange has a long and storied history in the new york city underground music scene of the nineties. from owning a record shop in the east village, to working at distributers, to playing in bands of all sorts, to producing music alone, strange was around at one of the most vibrant (and transitional) times in the l.e.s., just on the cusp of guliani s culture crackdown which choked the life out of the city, forcing many to leave. currently located in seattle, strange has picked up where he left off years ago plugging in the gear and churning out blistering acid cuts with a very d.i.y. edge that brings to mind drop bass network, unit moebius, or free party french acid of old. coming full circle these tracks are completely at home on l.i.e.s. and will undoubtedly thrash any soundsystem in sight. play at maximum volume for total disruption

american experimental musican shane english continues in a long tradition of outsider electronics as hes been humbly prolific in his output though the years involving himself in numerous recording projects.collaborating with jonah lange in their group corporate park as well as an ongoing collab with beau wanzer (seeing a release last year under the cp/bw name), english now commits his second full length solo offering to vinyl in the form of the general dimensions lp. sparse machine driven electronics dominate the recording providing a back drop for the occasional pulsating rhythm, metallic clank or floating obscured vocal. while it is a dark and sparse affair there is a quiet downtrodden beauty throughout giving the recording a sense of uncertain serenity in an almost shoegazey way. highly recommended for those into early electronics.

following on from label boss matthias tanzmann s latest and great lp, moon harbour announce the return of a big talent to their ranks: that person is ninetoes, aka german producer Özgür yelmen, and he serves up a fine new single that finds brothers santè and re.you appearing together for the first time ever as remixers on the same ep.

the argentinian based ngly had seemingly appeared out of thin air landing on the brooklyn based l.i.e.s. label in 2014 with an untitled four track white label ep. on this ep, the unsuspecting track -speechless tape- ended up becoming a cult hit with select djs in the scene (i-f, mick wills, intergalactic gary...) eventually leading to it being voted as intergalactic fm s #1 track of the year in 2014. on the heels of his successful debut rudolfo could have stayed the path and produced an easily digestable follow up dance record or two, instead he chose to take his time and reflect. sitting back in the studio tweaking his live act, recording endlessly, transforming and refining his sound.

insane hyper hybrid combo of wave/house/techno by murray cy of glasgow. the cy stands for -contort yourself- the label he runs which bridges the gaps between lost sounds of the past and contemprary noise makers, this ep displaying the producers take on the sound perfectly. all four tracks move in their own way from mid-tempo heaviness to more peak time fare. this is the rough back alley stuff you ve been warned about!

nice price deal !!! adam-x should need no introduction as he and his brother, frankie bones, pioneered techno in a post-disco, pre-guiliani, new york city through the late-eighties and onwards past the nineties with countless productions under their belts and throwing renegade parties throughout the 5 boroughs. their record store sonic groove served as a hub for purchasing cutting edge electronic music from across the globe and was a meeting point for likeminded freaks throughout the city.

based out of philly m//r delivers his second transmission for l.i.e.s. tip! out of the gate dread nox hits hard with dusty breaks and bizarre buried vocal samples blasting through over a dark ambience clattering about the track. portals following with a similar progression nasty drums and creeping strings moving the cut along, while tea and oranges closes with a stepping cadence which will undoubtedly resonate with certain djs. another strong outing from this up and coming artist.

forming during 1997 in providence, rhode island experimental group black dice have without question paved their own way through their 20 year career. doing what you want to do when you want to do it, no questions asked with a fully informed yet blatant disregard for everything surrounding them, always with acute execution and an ever changing singular sound. no gimmicks, no nonsense, since the beginning.
somehow it would only make sense for dice and l.i.e.s. to link up and after a long friendship we see it come to fruition. with this two track 12 inch dice put their foot on the gas and ramp it up. you wanted to shred? well this shreds. is it a snapshot of the past? a possible nod of things to come? a moment frozen in time? we leave it for you to decide.

hard edged metallic beat techno, shawn o sullivan picks up right we he left off on his last -this coercion pt.i- ep earlier this year. again we get driving, sharp machine music not so far from the birmingham school of the 90s sound with this latest ep. o sullivan has a knack with eloquently pummeling the listener as demonstrated here, the track fully automated being the perfect example as it airs out midway through taking a break from the punishment. top stuff..

greg beato is back on l.i.e.s. and back in top form with this massive 5 tracker. beato demonstrates his versatility as a producer throughout as we seem him move from melodic house, to electro, to tweaker dj rush style psycho beat tracks on this ep. every song here has its own unique flavor with beato s trademark style undeniably present. needless to say this ranks up there with some of his best work to date and is sure to make a lasting impression on all listeners.

following his l.i.e.s. lp last year and cccp 12 inch, 45 acp returns with a jaw dropping follow up. from scratchy ambience to dramatic slow tempo bpm cuts to melodic house tracks, 45 acp shines on this ep showing his versatility and reinforcing his reputation for strong song writing and composition. once again diverse enough for club or home listening, warm up or peak time. let the djs make the choice. another truly special ep from this up and coming producer. highly recommended.

up next on good company records is the hi vibe ep, a four-track trip into the outback of your mind, with synthetic friends timo l and deni deni, aka long body. setting off early in the piano-led landcruiser on a big trip , the listener is then invited to drop out by the spring of fuzzy logic ... over on the flip, it s (inner-)spacesuits on, until the dreamtime kosmische of stay vacation awakens to endless going and re-entry procedures can begin... -splashdown- !

chicago veterans justin long and ken zawacki debut their circling vultures project on l.i.e.s. with three tracks of jackin mid-western techno. the duo sucessfully harness their influences from medusas and the warehouse techno scene of the 90s to create a beating high octane ep full of metallic synths and contorted rhythms somewhere along the lines of djax meets dan bell meets relief records. sure to be in all the bags this summer, this will not be the last you hear of this pair.

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.

new three track ep by los angeles producer silent servant. these will fly ...tip! known for his previous work with techno outfit sandwell district, juan mendez, since the dissolve of the group has tapped into his formative new wave/post punk and early electronic influences effectively applying them to his recent productions to create an engaging amalgamation of modern dance music. across this ep the sounds of bleep, ebm, and even minimal synth are all present...from deep floor movers to jagged edged 150 bpm skankers, mendez through these last years has been responsible for opening up minds on the floor and this ep proves to be a testament of such.

this polyrhythmic swirl of drum machine, tape echo and locked grooves is the product of two post-1982 jam sessions between an anonymous dj and drum machine operator duo. the dj liked the way a record happened to skip. more were made to do so. the drum machine operator had had a bit too much, but he knew that 100 divided by 3 was 33 - and he was feeling the toms that night. file under: funky experimental.

ngly makes a return to l.i.e.s. following his highly lauded “speechless tape” ep from 2014. since then we have seen argentinian producer taking his live act around the world to much acclaim. luckily he s also been in the studio recording and finally delivering this new three track ep. here we get his signature dusty low slung sound full of basslines, creeper strings and driving drum programming. these are subtle yet effective funk-ridden club tools that are sure to move the floor and a precusor to even more from the in demand producer.

lies say we have been sitting on these tracks for a couple of years now waiting for the right time to release them and now finally they will see the light of day. tope drawer versions from grandmaster heard. house music legend mr. fingers remixing simoncinos beyond the dance track from his l.i.e.s. ep released in 2014. two mixes by one of the definitive pioneers of the genre taking simoncino s originals and working his magic on them. limited copies worldwide.

italian analogue techno and noise worship from meze, who constructs 4 heavy bangers with his modular gear. one of the talents to watch, this guy, blending industrial rhythms with dark melodies.

the highly anticipated follow up to their 2013 dream of the walled city (ost) lp, samo dj and max stenerudh return with another far out record complete with backstory. originally composed as an accompanying piece for artist thomas jeppe s exhibition in tehran, iran the music contained on this release was originally pressed on extremely limited cdr s given out for free at the exhibition. as it stands it would have been a crime to keep this music in the private sector, thus now we see an official release in long playing format here on l.i.e.s. dream-like, full of drama, suspense and full of cinematic overtones, once again the duo of samo and max deliver beyond the full scope of psychedelic soundtrack madness.

the force known as 33.10.3402 has built a cult following in certain circles through the years with his adventerous production approach and execution. with numerous releases on labels such as esp institute, kunstkopf, and most recently second circle we now see his appearence for the first time on l.i.e.s. 33.10.3402 perfectly balances his sound and presentation with this three track effort where we hear tones and rhythms that can go from baleric to metal beat in the blink of an eye. with looming clouds clearing for the light of day and then back again, these tracks sonically play with the emotions and serve equally as dancefloor cuts or for home listening bugout sessions.

new york s gunnar haslam appears on l.i.e.s. with his third lp for the label titled lebesgue measures. picking up where he left off on his last long player mirrors and copulation we hear an evolution in his sound throughout the nine songs. still there are the understated yet grooving acid lines next to carefully programmed drums and attention to surrounding detail which creates beautiful and balanced atmospheres. there is a brightness coupled with an underlying sullenness tapping into some sort of mystical and seemingly obscured narrative which moves through the entire record. deep and immersive stuff to say the least.

black dice s eric copeland returns to l.i.e.s. with his second release for the label, this time in the form of the 34 minute long *jesus freak* mini-lp.

jean nipon most recently known for his standout productions on parisien label clekclek boom joins the l.i.e.s. stable with a new three track ep. the a-side sees nipon go straight for the throat with a chicago-esce muted-synth beating drum track, not unlike early poindexter or ricky smith productions- it is effective, dj ready, and geared for the club. the two track b-side takes a more mellow and dusty approach- without losing his sense of rhythm engaging drum programming push along tape warbled melodies as the tracks expand and release, balancing out and letting this ep breathe perfectly.
